Brian Buffini Interviews Nevada Attorney General Regarding COVID-19 Response
AG Aaron Ford Discusses Public-Private Partnerships to Help Consumers Avoid Scams, Obtain Housing Relief and Help Their Communities Recover
CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 21, 2020) — In the latest episode of “The Brian Buffini Show” podcast, real estate leader Brian Buffini interviews Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford to discuss how public and private, as well as, state and national entities have teamed up to assist consumers during the COVID-19 pandemic. They dive into what Ford’s office is doing to help people avoid scams, receive housing assistance and find more personal protective equipment (PPE) for frontline workers. This interview is part of a special series on “The Brian Buffini Show” podcast to bring listeners timely information about COVID-19 response direct from expert sources.
During the interview, Ford shares how his office is working across statelines to not only protect consumers in Nevada, but also across the country. As many states do, the Nevada Attorney General’s office manages a toll-free 800 number and website where scams can be reported that target both individuals and businesses. Using the information gathered from these reports, Ford’s office is working with the US Attorney General, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), law enforcement and other appropriate agencies to develop a COVID-19 scam clearinghouse, of sorts, to protect citizens in his state and across the country.
Nevada Attorney General Ford says his office has sought out proactive ways to handle a potential increase of evictions and foreclosures. He references the historic $25 billion federal-state settlement that received the greenlight from 49 attorneys general across the United States and led to the creation of Home Again: Nevada Homeowner Relief Program. This free public service is one way consumers are able to understand their options when it comes to housing, a concept that Ford says will facilitate recovery today: “One of the lessons that we take away from the last crisis is that, although it will take time, we will recover.”
Buffini and Ford agree there is a great need for compassion as society adapts to a new normal. The two discuss the power of cultivating relationships between the government and private sector to benefit all who have been affected by the pandemic. Ford describes his relationships with private companies to assist frontline workers, shelters and individuals across Nevada. Brian Buffini shares how many professionals are also stepping up and becoming a voice of value, reminding listeners that “We need to be patient. We need to be kind. We’re all in this together.”
Before becoming the Nevada Attorney General, Ford served in the State Senate as the Majority Leader, Minority Leader and Assistant Majority Whip. He has held leadership roles on several legislative committees and was recognized as best Senate Freshman and Rookie of the Year by state publications. His law career began after his time teaching math in public high schools.
